Beekeeping Calendar

Now that I have some experience under my belt, I can do as I always intended and calendar my activities. This is to help me in the future, though I do hope others may benefit. Feel free to comment on any way this can be improved. Dates are Southern Hemisphere, so adapt as needed.


Date Tasks Details
July High Temp Avg = 11˚C
Low Temp Avg = 2˚C
August  Check for feed  High Temp Avg = 12˚C
Low Temp Avg = 3.2˚C
September  Get mite treatment in,
check for feed
High Temp Avg = 14.5˚C
Low Temp Avg = 5.3˚C
October  Watch for swarming
Good time to split hives
Labour weekend:
Remove strips after 6-8 wks
Add honey supers
High Temp Avg = 17˚C
Low Temp Avg = 7.2˚C
Visit Ekroyds for any new gear needed
November  Hive inspection needed, submit by 5 Dec
Add supers if needed
 High Temp Avg = 19˚C
Low Temp Avg = 9˚C
December  Check and add more supers,
Possible extraction late dec
Gear up for extraction – find and clean equipment
High Temp Avg = 21˚C
Low Temp Avg = 11˚C
January  Extract, add supers to empty hive High Temp Avg = 22˚C
Low Temp Avg = 12˚C
February  Inspect each couple of weeks, adding supers
Order queens for spring (if needed)
 High Temp Avg = 21.7˚C
Low Temp Avg = 12˚C
March  Extract
Put in strips for autumn, as soon as supers are off
Clean and store gear
High Temp Avg = 20˚C
Low Temp Avg = 11˚C
April  Easter – remove strips around then.  High Temp Avg = 17˚C
Low Temp Avg = 8˚CAssureQuality
May  Winter preparation, close entrance, ensure feed is adequate  High Temp Avg = 14.2˚C
Low Temp Avg = 5˚C
June  Just leave them alone if possible High Temp Avg = 11.5˚C
Low Temp Avg = 2.5˚C
